pe-snooze-you-lose.jpgAccordinging to experts, lack of sleep may cause you to skip exercise or to eat sweets for that extra energy boost.  Not getting adequate sleep will affect your hormones that tell you when to eat (ghrelin) and when to stop (leptin).  When you don't get your recommended 7 to 8 hours of sleep, more ghrelin is produced and less leptin is produced.  So, your body is telling you to eat more and telling you to stop less frequently.  Metabolism also slows down when you are tired, compounding the tendency for weight gain.  Get your nightly sleep, and if you don't, try to sneak in a power nap instead of a power snack.
